A divorce coach helps you work through both the emotional and practical elements of separation or divorce, allowing you to move on.

If you’re going through a divorce, it can feel as though every part of your life is changing at the same time.

One minute you’re trying to make big decisions about your future, the next you’re worrying about your children, your finances or how you’re going to get through the week ahead. The truth is, it’s a lot for one person to carry.

The problem is that a lot of people think they need to get through it on their own. And whilst they might lean on friends or family when things get overwhelming, the reality is that finding real, objective advice is hard.

Sometimes what you really need is someone who will listen without judgement, help you untangle what’s happening and support you in working out what comes next.

That’s exactly what a divorce coach is there for.

If you’re wondering whether you need a divorce coach, I’d be happy to talk things through with you during a free consultation.

What is a divorce coach?

A divorce coach is someone who is there to support you through the emotional and practical elements of divorce. They are there to help you talk through big decisions, manage any road blocks along the way and move on in the healthiest way possible.

Whilst solicitors focus on the legal side of divorce and therapists often focus on emotional healing by looking at the past, a divorce coach sits somewhere in the middle.

My role isn’t to give legal advice or tell you what decisions to make.

Instead, I provide a calm, supportive space where you can talk openly about what’s happening, make sense of your situation and start focusing on your next steps.

I’ve been through divorce myself, so I understand just how scary it can feel.

Alongside my own personal experience, I have spent more than 14 years supporting families through difficult life transitions, helping people navigate one of the biggest changes they may ever experience.

What does a divorce coach actually help with?

A divorce coach helps with a lot of the things that sit outside the legal divorce process, from managing difficult emotions to rebuilding confidence, preparing for big decisions and more.

But one of the most interesting things about divorce coaching is that every client arrives with a different story, at a different point in their journey.

Some are trying to decide whether it’s time to leave their relationship, others have recently separated and feel overwhelmed by everything they suddenly need to figure out.

Some are already divorced but still feel stuck and worried about what moving forward looks like.

Depending on your situation, divorce coaching might involve helping you:

One thing I always say to clients is that we don’t have to solve everything at once, we’ll start by focusing on what’s most important today, then take the next step together.

Feeling overwhelmed by everything that’s happening?

If you’re carrying the weight of your separation on your own, you don’t have to. I offer a free consultation where we can talk about what’s happening and whether coaching feels like the right support for you.

What doesn’t a divorce coach do?

A divorce coach doesn’t provide legal advice or replace therapy, but they can work alongside both to give you the support you need.

This is something people often ask me: where does a divorce coach fit in? As a divorce coach, I won’t tell you what legal decisions to make or represent you in court. Those conversations should always happen with your solicitor.

Likewise, if you’re struggling with significant trauma from the past or mental health difficulties, therapy may also be an important part of your journey.

Instead, coaching focuses on helping you navigate everything in between. With a divorce coach, you often navigate the difficult conversations, the uncertainty and the decisions that keep going round in your head.

It’s also a safe place to talk about what comes next, and start making plans for the future without worry or judgement.

When should you work with a divorce coach?

You can work with a divorce coach before, during or long after your divorce.

One of the biggest misconceptions about divorce coaching is that it’s only for people who have already decided to separate. In reality, many of my clients come to me before they’ve made that decision.

They’re questioning their relationship, trying to understand what they really want or looking for someone impartial to help them think things through.

Others come to me whilst they’re going through a divorce because they need help navigating conflict, co-parenting or just someone to speak to as they go through major life changes.

There isn’t a “right” time to ask for support. If you’re struggling, that’s enough.

Can a divorce coach work alongside a solicitor?

Yes, a divorce coach and a solicitor often work very well together because they support different parts of the divorce process.

Your solicitor is there to guide you through the legal side of divorce. As a divorce coach, my role is to help you feel calmer, clearer and more prepared before those conversations happen.

Many clients tell me they worry about meetings with their solicitor or mediation because emotions are running high.

Talking things through beforehand often helps them organise their thoughts, ask the questions they really want answered and make decisions from a calmer place.

It can also help reduce the temptation to use expensive legal appointments as emotional support, allowing your solicitor to focus on legal advice whilst we focus on everything else.

What happens during divorce coaching?

During divorce coaching, we work together to understand what’s happening, figure out what’s causing the most stress and create a plan that feels manageable.

There’s no pressure to have everything figured out before your first session.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want, you don’t need to pretend you’re coping if you’re not.

We’ll start wherever you are. Some people need space to talk, others want help making a difficult decision.

Some simply want to stop feeling as though they’re carrying everything on their own.

Whatever brings you to divorce coaching, my goal is always the same: to help you leave feeling calmer, clearer and more confident than when you arrived.

Is divorce coaching right for me?

Divorce coaching may be right for you if you’re looking for support, emotional reassurance and someone to help you move forward after a divorce.

Sometimes people contact me because they’re lying awake every night worrying about the future, sometimes they’re exhausted from trying to stay strong for everyone else.

Sometimes they just want someone who understands what they’re going through without judging them or telling them what they should do.

If any of that sounds familiar, coaching could make a real difference.
